The Long Barn

Relax in the tranquil Long Barn

The Long Barn, in Reen, is nestled in a couple of acres of organic garden on a headland surrounded by the sea. Close to the end of a long boreen that leads to a deserted beach, the Barn offers the ultimate refuge from hectic schedules and busy lives.

The ambience is rustic – thumblatch doors, wooden floors throughout, exposed beams, old but solid furniture – but with no compromise on comfort – powerful shower, fully equipped kitchen with most modern appliances. There is central heating and plenty of radiators to drive away the chill and damp, or a wood-burning stove if you’d prefer the rustic/romantic ambience.

Swim, kayak, walk, or just sit, mesmerised by the crack and spit of the fire, a book, unopened, on your lap.

When you are refreshed and ready to face the world again, visit local farmer’s markets, or eat at restaurants offering everything from the best fish and chips to Michelin-starred fine dining, all within half an hour’s drive. See spectacular scenery, be entertained by the many seasonal festivals, take a sailing or powerboat course, go sea-angling or whale watching.

Such a fabulous quiet peaceful retreat. We stayed here for two nights and loved the quiet countryside rural location. The dogs and chickens were a major hit with our daughter as was the little people beach a couple of minutes walk away.

Richard and Jo’s barn is so peaceful. It’s a barn in the woods, nearby some beautiful views and cute towns (we went to Skibbereen and Clonakilty). Perfect place for R & R. I stayed there with my partner for 10 days and we felt incredibly relaxed the entire time. The nature, dogs, cats, chickens, birds, […]

Overview

Located on an organic headland in Reen, south of Union Hall, West Cork, the Long Barn nestles in a wild garden surrounded by mature trees, lawns and kitchen garden. (There are no direct sea views; the barn is old and built in the lee of the hills out of the wind!)

The ambience is quirky, rural, rustic, with thumblatch doors, exposed beams, wooden floors throughout.

There are two bedrooms (a double and a twin) a bathroom with bath and shower, a utility room with washing machine and dryer and a kitchen/living room with all mod-cons.

WiFi is free, not up to city standards, but plenty good enough for streaming movies on the flatscreen provided if the weather is really bleak.

There is a small private terrace for outdoor dining – a suntrap in the mornings. For children (or energetic adults!) there’s a ground-level trampoline, a swing, lots of space to run around, and a very secluded gently shelving beach two minutes walk down the lane.
